How To Paint A Blonde girl – Watercolor Portrait Step By Step

1. Make a Sketching

Use a pencil to create shapes, keep the sketch clean and neat, try to make the composition as complete and beautiful as possible, the shapes must be precise, the lines are not too rigid in the painting.

2. Mask the highlights by Using Masking fluid

Use Schmincke masking fluid to mask the highlights of the character’s face and hair. Wait for it to dry completely before applying the paint.

3. Appling first layer

Start the coloring process, try to blend the colors as smoothly as possible, add some water, first apply a layer of background color, then add layer by layer, the color of the painting will be rich.
In order for the picture not to look monotonous, use Da Vinci brush number 02; apply a mixture of yellow, green, and red to suggest the base layer.
Wait for these paints to dry a bit and then proceed to paint the second layers with the main colors being red and pink.

4. Paints the hair.

This step paints the hair. Use a light yellow or medium yellow with more water to paint the hair, and try to keep the paint matte on the paper at the edges, for a more natural look. While the paints dry a little, apply a second layer to the hair, this time using a little brown, pink, and green, less watery than the first; clothes painted blue and yellow.

5. Paint the Background

Now you have to wait for the painting to dry before painting the background, if not, the characters will be blurred in the background.
The background is mixed with the color of the character just drawn. the color may be a bit dirty, but the purity should not be too high, it can be contrasted with the color of the character. After applying the base coat, you can wipe off the masking fluid layer, but be careful not to damage the paper.

6. Refine details of the Face

Based on the original color, add some bluish-gray and skin tones to the face to stabilize the character’s facial expression; This style does not need to depict the eyebrows and eyelashes very clearly. The eyebrows and eyeballs are painted with brown, black, and blue colors. For the hair, use a mixture of yellow, a bit of pink, and brown to paint the dark parts. Here, I used the #2 pen and a rigger brush. Be careful not to cover the highlights.

After the painting is dry, sprinkle some water on the paper, wait a few minutes, and then use a paper towel to absorb the water, you will see that the color will be noticeably lighter. This is also a small painting technique.

7. Define the details of hair

Outline those sparse hairs and the hairs in the dark part of the hair with a rigger brush, focusing on the hair at the temples, the hair at the ends, and the rest then blurred, due to the contrast between near and far. Clothes have a light and dark relationship.
